This, I believe, has been as close to a perfect day as I can recall having in an awfully long time.
After rising early I shot the cucumber magnolia tree at Auburn Knolls. I was happy with the collection of images I was able to capture.
It's difficult to imagine better, more enjoyable conditions for shooting. We had the type of day that I'd love to put in a jar to open for my birthday in February.
I had some time to think about what I wanted to do and to take more time to get it done on this go 'round. What became clear, unfortunately is that I shortchanged the Dobkins house when I shot it the first time.
I had a chance to talk with the owner of the house. One of the things he said was, "If Wright did anything, most of his residential architecture screams of shelter." I thought about that when I was shooting.
One of the unique things about the Dobkins house is that Wright did a plant design for the yard. He featured 14 pin oaks.
To photograph the Dobkins house without paying appropriate attention to the trees you miss the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Interesting thinking about how many times I drove by this house over the past 10 years or so. It's all I hoped it would be. And, as it turns out, more.

looks beautiful, you're right to point out that the trees are intrinsic to the overall concept and design of the house.
I have lived in southwestern Pa. most of my life and I'm ashamed to admit that I just made my first visit to Fallingwater. I loved it. If you visit my blog you can read what my 10-year-old daughter thought of the trip.
Beautiful design and I love the trees.
Being surrounded by pure concrete makes these photos seem even more beautiful and calming and relaxing
Nice shots :)
A photograph can look nice or pretty or interesting, but to read about the experience of the photographer taking the shot completes the picture.
